Incoming Elon freshman volleyball player Megan Gravley is one of four recruits to the Phoenix volleyball team this season. The Pendulum spoke with the outside hitter from Cary, N.C. about her career in volleyball and what she’s looking forward to with the maroon and gold this year.
Q: How long have you been playing volleyball?
A: I started at the end of 8th grade. I was a basketball player so I hated volleyball. I thought it was too girly. But my parents asked me to try a volleyball camp, and I’ve loved it ever since.
Q: How did you hear about Elon? When did you decide to come play at Elon?
A: I first heard about Elon through a recruiting letter sent to me by the volleyball coaches. I also found out a lot about it through my friend Kris Harris who had committed to play at Elon the year before. I committed in January of my junior year of high school.
Q: Kristen is also a former teammate from high school. How does it feel to be able to play alongside her again?
A: I absolutely loved playing beside her in high school. She made everything so much more fun on the court. I am so excited to be able to have the opportunity to play next to her again.
Q: What are you most excited about playing for Elon?
A: I’m excited to be playing volleyball all the time. I love to be in the gym whether it is playing volleyball or working out. It’s one of my favorite things to do.
Q: Any concerns about coming to college and playing volleyball at the same time?
A: I’m a little nervous about the time management aspect of being a student athlete, but I know that we have an excellent support staff and academic advisors that will assist us if we ever need help.
Q: Do you know what you might want to major in?
A: Yes! I am planning on majoring in communications.
Q: Anything else you are looking forward to about Elon?
A: I’m excited to meet the other athletes on other sports teams. I’ve heard that the athletes, no matter what team, are very close with each other. I’m excited to know that there is a support system within the athletic community.
